2 April 2007
As foreshadowed at the recent
Government Business Scrutiny Committee,
TT-Line's Spirits of Tasmania
I and II will cease operating Sunday sailings on some
weekends during the off-peak period when demand is traditionally
low to reduce costs.
The dates affected are:
- Sunday 27 May 2007
- Sundays 3, 10 and 24 June 2007
- Sundays 1, 8, 15 and 22 July 2007
- Sundays 12 and 19 August 2007
Chief Executive Peter Simmons said exceptions had been made to
take into account dry docking of Spirit of Tasmania I for
regular maintenance and Tasmanian school holidays in June.
"Spirit I will leave the Bass Strait service on Sunday
29 July for dry dock in Sydney and return to Melbourne for
resumption of service on 13 August," he said.
"During Spirit I's absence, Spirit II will
operate a modified schedule."
Passengers who have already made bookings for these dates will
be contacted by the company and offered alternate sailing days with
a discount of 25 per cent to their passenger fare or a full refund
should they decide not to travel.
Mr Simmons said the company had stated on a number of occasions
that controlling costs would continue to be a priority moving
forward.
"Sailings between May and the end of August are traditionally
periods of low demand," he said.
"Not operating these Sunday sailings will deliver significant
savings to the company."
