January to February performance
TT-Line's Devonport to Melbourne service on Spirit of
Tasmania I and II has enjoyed a strong January and
February.
As reported in the last e-newsletter distributed on 24 January
2007, forward bookings for the six months were up by nearly 10 per
cent compared to the same period in 2005/06.
In January and February 2007, TT-Line's passenger numbers
increased by nearly 16 per cent compared to the same period in
2006.
Passenger vehicles carried in the first two months of this year
increased by more than 13 per cent while freight continued to
perform solidly.
March to June performance prediction
As outlined in the 2005/06 Annual Report, controlling costs and
increasing passenger numbers on the traditional Spirit of
Tasmania I and II services between Melbourne and Devonport are
priorities for the company in 2006/07.
TT-Line has performed well in both these areas - particularly in
controlling costs.
Forward bookings for the remainder of this financial year (March
to June) are healthy going forward.
Spirit transport bikes, cyclists
In February, Spirit of Tasmania transported 100
cyclists and their bikes for the 445-kilometre Great Tasmanian Bike
Ride cycling holiday.
It is the fourth year TT-Line has worked with Bicycle Victoria
to assist with the transportation of cyclists, bikes, volunteers,
support staff and their equipment.
The Great Tasmanian Bike Ride, in its 11th year, exposed
Tasmania and its natural attractions to cyclists from throughout
Australia, England, the United States and New Zealand.
TT-Line is strongly committed to promoting tourism in
Tasmania. The Great Tasmanian Bike Ride, which included
riders under 10 years of age to those older than 80, is one way to
achieve this.
Rare Jubilee Jaguars visit Tasmania on board Spirit
of Tasmania
Within a week of transporting cyclists, bikes, volunteers,
support staff and their equipment for the 11th Great Tasmanian Bike
Ride, Spirit of Tasmania carried 15 rare Jaguar motor
vehicles for the 50th Golden Jubilee Jaguar XK150 Tour of
Tasmania.
While the cargo was very different, the end result was the same
- exposing Tasmania, home to some of Australia's best touring
roads, to a new type of traveller.
Rally organisers indicated they chose to travel onboard
Spirit of Tasmania as the ship could not only transport
vehicles, but its many lounges, restaurants and bars provided the
perfect environment for drivers to get to know each other on the
voyage between Victoria and Tasmania.
Some of the Jaguars, most of which are 50 years old, travelled
from as far as the UK and New Zealand just to participate.
