23 January 2009
Spirit of Tasmania's Chief
Executive Officer Charles Griplas announced today TT-Line will
spear head visitation to the state by promoting a new fare
initiative that aims to boost visitation over the upcoming autumn
months.
"Business confidence over the past few months has declined in the
tourist sector and our focus for 2009 is to strengthen our position
in the market. I believe we can assist the industry and operators
by providing specific targeted offers which will lead to a boost in
interest and visitation to the state" said Mr Griplas.
"For Tasmania to maintain its position and share of tourism it is
important for the industry to work together to support each other.
We've seen falls in both the Australian dollar and petrol prices,
which may strengthen our tourism advantage," said Mr Griplas.
Spirit of Tasmania aims to be innovative in this current climate
by choosing sales initiatives which will encourage people to travel
to Tasmania at affordable prices to suit a range of budgets.
This new sale fare begins on Sunday 25 January 2009. Passengers
will be able to purchase a day sailing ticket for $65* per person
each way and take their car from just $65* each way as well. Fares
at this price will only last for three weeks starting 25 January
2009 and concluding 14 February 2009. Offer is valid for travel on
selected day sailings until 19 April 2009.
"It is great to see Spirit of Tasmania leading the way with deals
that not only make it cheaper to travel to Tasmania but keep the
state at top of mind among potential visitors," said Tourism
Industry Council Tasmania Chief Executive Officer, Daniel
Hanna.
Mr Hanna continued, "2009 will be a challenging year for the
tourism industry but initiatives like this can help to convince
people in our core interstate markets of the value in taking a
holiday in Tasmania.
"Visitors to Tasmania that arrive by sea are vital for our
industry and regional areas. This is because sea visitors to
Tasmania will stay longer, spend more and see more of our wonderful
state."
Charles Griplas added, "Our way of responding to the economic
downturn is to innovate and offer products that will encourage
consumers to travel to the island state with Spirit of Tasmania.
The new sale shows our customers that we are not afraid of trying
new approaches so that Tasmania is seen as the best place to visit
in Australia."
Cabin upgrades are also available for a minimal fee during this
special offer. The fare will be on offer for just a three week
period and valid on specific day sailings until 19 April
2009.
