Young VoicesA chorus of stunning young voices will gather on board Spirit of Tasmania tonight to give passengers a special winter performance.

Travellers on the journey from Melbourne to Tasmania will enjoy sailing to the sounds of one of Australia's finest children's choirs. Founded by Mark O'Leary in 1990, the Young Voices of Melbourne touring choir consists of singers aged 12 to 18 years old.

The choir performs regularly in and around Melbourne and has toured all states and territories of Australia, as well as Europe, South Africa, Canada, Singapore and Thailand.

Young Voices of Melbourne will be heading to Tasmania for a six day tour of northern Tasmania before arriving in Hobart to participate in the winter arts event, Festival of Voices, on 9 to 12 July.

"The choir is really looking forward to performing in Tasmania this year.

"Singing on Spirit of Tasmania will be a highlight of the tour for the kids," enthused Mark O'Leary, Young Voices of Melbourne's conductor.

Festival of Voices was established in 2005 and offers a rich four day program of vocal celebration, concerts and workshops. Last year, more than 30 choirs from across Australia took part in the festival. Hundreds attended performances and workshops and more than 2,000 people gathered under the night sky for the festival bonfire concert.

Young Voices of Melbourne has already enjoyed success and released eight CD recordings. The choir has collaborated with many great choirs and artists both in Australia and through their travels abroad. The choir is regularly heard on Australian radio and television.

Over the past couple of years the choir has also performed at several festivals and major events including the Port Fairy Folk Festival, National Folk Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, the Commonwealth Games Arts Festival and the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.

Mr Charles Griplas, CEO, Spirit of Tasmania said, "We are delighted to have such fine young talent on board to entertain our travellers. I'm sure passengers will enjoy this unique musical experience."
