Search for Tasmania's young achievers

22 September 2009

Today the 2009/2010 Southern Cross Young Achiever Awards are being launched and the call for nominations will commence to all young Tasmanians between 14-28 years of age.

The Awards endeavour to recognise Tasmania's outstanding young achievers.

There are eight award categories kindly sponsored by iconic Tasmanian businesses and each award has a different unique set of criteria.

The Spirit of Tasmania Award epitomises promoting Tasmania and recognises young people who possess confidence, creativity, credibility, leadership and high achievement, showing pride for our southern state through an impressive display in business, community or social behaviour.

"We have proudly supported these  awards as a sponsor for the past five years and we look forward again this year to identifying more wonderful young people like last year's Spirit of Tasmania category winner Josh Sutton," said Mr Charles Griplas, Chief Executive Officer, Spirit of Tasmania.

"At Spirit of Tasmania, we like to involve our category award winners with our brand, people and customers.

"Josh, who is currently a 23 year old head chef at Essence Food & Wine in Devonport, will be preparing a chef inspired meal in our on board a la carte restaurant and we are all excited about this opportunity," said Mr Griplas.

"I commend anyone who is prepared to take the time to nominate someone. There are so many people who are deserving of our acknowledgement and to make the effort on their behalf is special in itself.

"I encourage all Tasmanians who know or are involved with a young person to nominate them for this year's awards."

The winner of the Spirit of Tasmania category award will receive a trophy and prize money presented to them at the Southern Cross Young Achiever Awards gala dinner at Wrest Point in Hobart on Saturday 17 April 2010.

Nomination forms are available via www.awards Australia.com or by contacting the Awards Office on (03) 6234 9677 or email tas@awardsaustralia.com

Nominations close Wednesday 9 December 2009.
