3 March 2011

Spirit of Tasmania is pleased to be the official partner of the inaugural Devonport Food & Wine Festival, which will launch on Saturday 5 March.

A special 'dish of the month' - Rannoch Farm Quail with Asian spices served on baby spinach leaves with redcurrant glaze - will be featured on board the ships during March as part of the month-long food and wine festival.

In addition, The Edgewater Hotel, owned and operated by TT-Line, will be featuring two themed events - an 'Arabian Night Middle Eastern BBQ' on 4 March at Roundhouse park between 5.30pm and 7.30pm and 'Crepes by the Sea' on Friday 25 March at Wheeler St Reserve between 9.30am and 10.30am.

Manager of the Edgewater Hotel Michael Wyett said he was looking forward to participating in the festival.

"We are excited about the chance to showcase our local produce. If we get a favourable response from festival attendees, we can look at featuring the crepes or kebabs on our menu in the future," Mr Wyett said.

The Edgewater has recently opened a new restaurant in Devonport, The Port. Its menu has been carefully selected to stand out from other hotels and restaurants in Devonport.

Spirit of Tasmania Retail & Hospitality General Manager Nick Harriman will be speaking at the official launch on 5 March, alongside Devonport Mayor Lynn Laycock and world renowned chef Luke Mangan.

"We have an amazing range of locally grown produce in our state and people are starting to appreciate that we really are Australia's national food bowl," Mr Harriman said.

"I'm looking forward to celebrating some of the glorious food the north west coast has to offer."

Sprit of Tasmania has also launched the 'Tassie Tastes Recipe Competition' to coincide with the launch of the Devonport Food & Wine Festival. Details were announced on Monday by Tasmanian Brand Ambassador Tetsuya Wakuda. Entrants are invited to submit a recipe and share their story behind it to win a share in more that $5,000 worth of prizes, including a food focused holiday in Tasmania for two people. There is also a category exclusively for Tasmanian residents to submit their Tasmanian themed recipe. Entries close 29 April. Visit spiritoftasmania.com.au/recipe to enter now.
