Spirit of Tasmania has made available additional seats on its
Saturday 18 June Melbourne to Devonport sailing to assist people
stranded at airports in Victoria.
The company has already made available an additional 110 seats in
the Spirit of Tasmania cinemas for every southbound crossing this
week. All seats up to and including Friday night have sold
out.
Cinema seats on Devonport to Melbourne voyages were also made
available Monday through Wednesday.
Spirit of Tasmania has been keeping a watching brief on the
problems caused at airports by ash from a Chilean volcano that has
drifted into Australian air space since news broke at the
weekend.
The latest advice from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) is
that Melbourne is expected to remain clear of ash from the current
cloud as a result of a low pressure system that is producing rain
in Sydney.
The VAAC is keeping a close eye on Tasmania and has advised that
it believes some of the ash is dispersing.
