Spirit
of Tasmania is joining forces with the Make
a Wish Foundation (MAWF) in a fantastic fundraising
event.
One of Tasmania's
best-known ultra-marathon runners, Vlastik Skvaril,
aims to collect $20,000 in donations for MAWF by running
from Devonport to Melbourne and back this weekend.
Although far
from Athens, Vlastik's Olympic effort will commence
when he boards Spirit of Tasmania in Devonport
on Friday 27 August, and 'runs' from Tasmania to Victoria,
on a treadmill.
Vlastik will
mark the half way point of his journey by running
on to the Melbourne Cricket Ground at half time during
the Richmond Tigers and Sydney Swans football match
on Saturday.
Both Richmond
and Sydney football clubs have teamed together during
the AFL round 22 clash to support Vlastik's run and
MAWF.
At the final
siren, Vlastik will commence his return home boarding
Spirit of Tasmania again 'running' back
to Devonport overnight and on to Burnie, his hometown,
on Sunday.
Vlastik
was the first Australian runner home in the gruelling
378km Simpson Desert Challenge in 2002. He also won
the Coburg 24-hour event in 2001 and was presented
with seven age records following his performance in
Coburg and at the Spartathlon event in Greece.
