The Make-A-Wish Foundation received a pleasant surprise this morning on board Spirit of Tasmania III in Devonport when the ship’s crew presented the charity with an additional $1,000.
Representatives of Make-A-Wish boarded the ship to present the Spirit with a plaque for helping to raise over $5,000 at open day events last month.
Around 5,000 potential passengers toured Spirit of Tasmania III at the events in Brisbane and Sydney with the majority providing gold coin donations for the charity.
The additional funds presented this morning resulted from a Spirit workplace initiative where TT-Line donates $1,000 to the crew’s choice of charity for every 60 day period with no lost time to injury (LTI).
Spirit of Tasmania III achieved an outstanding 85 day LTI free period on 7 July 2005.
“The LTI program is excellent because it increases awareness of workplace safety, promotes a consistently safe work environment and also benefits Tasmanian charities,” said Spirit of Tasmania Captain Glenn Cole.
“The crew nominated Make-A-Wish for their outstanding work in enabling children with a life threatening illness to realise their dreams.
“The crew is to be congratulated for their achievement, which has profited a very worthwhile charity,” he said.
