1 September 2006
TT-Line staff in Melbourne, Devonport and on board Spirit of Tasmania I and II today celebrated the fourth birthday of the twin ships.
“Spirit of Tasmania I and II began service on 1 September 2002 and have since carried over 1.7m passengers,” said Chief Executive Peter Simmons.
“The ships have made a significant contribution to the Tasmanian economy with over $1,000m spent in the state by passengers using the Melbourne to Devonport service,” he said.
“In addition to this, 82% of our fantastic food offerings on the ship come from Tasmania. Engineering works, port fees and laundry services for the Spirits also inject tens of millions of dollars into the economy each year.
“With the company focussed solely on the Melbourne service now, our aim is to further increase passenger number on the route this year,” said Mr Simmons.
Staff will celebrate with birthday cakes both on board and on the shore today.
The day is especially significant for staff celebrating their four year anniversaries with Spirit of Tasmania, employed during the introduction of Spirits I and II.
