What kind of Spirited Traveller are you?

Spirit of Tasmania offers a different type of travel. And the people who take Spirit of Tasmania are different types of travellers. But with a common desire. To get the most out of their trips. Whatever you’re into, from culture to nature, we’ve got the perfect Tasmanian road trip sorted.

Everybody’s different, which is why Tassie is for everyone. We’ve created nine diverse road-trip itineraries so you can explore the island your way. Does one of these five-day journeys for Spirited Travellers get your motor running?

An escape into nature

If your idea of a great holiday is about being in the great outdoors, you’ll go wild for Tasmania’s dramatic mountains, rivers, lakes and coastline, and abundant, often unique flora and fauna.

Of course our nature lover road trip takes in iconic Cradle Mountain, which can be admired on several walking trails from easy to adventurous. Linger at a luxurious lodge and its spa with alpine views, or at a cabin in the national park’s wilderness. Either way, this place will give you a natural high.

There are so many more highlights on this five-day getaway. Subterranean caves with amazing limestone formations, crystals and glow worms. Sea caves, rockpools and a massive chunk of volcanic rock called The Nut that offers epic coastal views.

You’ll meet Tasmanian Devils at a sanctuary, and maybe in their natural habitat too, alongside other native animals like wombats, quolls and black currawongs. If it’s spring, feast your eyes on colourful wildflowers, tulips and rhododendrons.

Explore the vast Tarkine region, from a natural arch in the rainforest to a place called The Edge of the World on the wild west coast. Cruise along a remote river, and kick back in a former mining town turned eco-resort.

The gourmet getaway

Fertile soil, clean waters, a mild climate and can-do attitude all combine to make Tassie an essential foodie destination.

The culinary excitement begins as soon as you drive off Spirit of Tasmania in Devonport, at the heart of the north-west’s Tasting Trail. Fabulous fresh produce and premium products await, including truffles, cheese, chocolate and berries.

On our gourmet adventurer road trip you will also dine at Tasmania’s best restaurants, from Launceston to Hobart – including whichever among Mona’s exciting options makes your mouth water most. Beyond these delicious cities, feast at New Norfolk’s celebrated Agrarian Kitchen, and enjoy seafood with Bass Strait views at Devonport’s Mrs Jones restaurant.

Sample Tasmania’s finest flavours at city market stalls, and graze at a luxe lodge in the remote central highlands. If you feel like getting hands-on, there’s also the chance for a cooking class or guided fishing trip.

The cultural adventure

Mona is also a must on any culture lover’s itinerary. This internationally renowned destination for contemporary art, historic artefacts and striking architecture is just part of Hobart’s smorgasbord for the mind.

Delve into everything from Aboriginal culture to Antarctic exploration at the capital’s museums. Stay at Australia’s first art hotel. Shop for local arts and crafts. Travel back in time on a horse-drawn carriage ride through Hobart’s historic heart.

On our culture buff road trip you will also discover picturesque villages whose heritage charms include some of the nation’s oldest bridges. There are two UNESCO-listed, convict-era farming estates as well, and antique shopping opportunities galore.

Explore the past some more at Launceston’s museums, which offer everything from dinosaurs to century-old trams. While in town visit Design Tasmania, where you can admire and also buy exceptional island-made woodwork, weaving, jewellery and more.

Culture vultures, get ready to pounce!
