Discover Tasmania

Roll off Spirit of Tasmania in Devonport with the caravan behind you and an entire island ahead. The beauty is deciding which way to point the rig first.

West Coast wilderness and historic heartland

Head west along Tasmania’s North West Coast towards Stanley, where the distinctive Nut rises above the seaside town. Then turn inland as the landscape becomes wilder towards the west coast and the rugged Tarkine wilderness.

Continue south to Strahan, where rainforest and harbour meet, before pointing the caravan east towards the lakes and mountains of the Central Highlands. Follow the road through Bothwell towards Hobart, then take the slower route north through Tasmania’s historic heartland. Stop at Oatlands and Ross, where heritage streetscapes offer plenty of reasons to park the van and wander.

East Coast beaches and northern detours

The scenery changes again as you head towards the east coast and the beaches and bays around Bicheno, St Marys and St Helens. Or turn inland and explore smaller country towns, local producers and those unexpected roadside discoveries that make a trip memorable.

There’s no need to hurry back to Devonport. Detour through the Tamar Valley, explore the countryside around Deloraine and Sheffield or venture towards Cradle Mountain.

That’s the joy of caravanning Tasmania. Stay another night somewhere you love, follow an intriguing directional sign or change direction on a local’s recommendation. You set the pace.

A little planning goes a long way, so map your route and allow time to enjoy the journey. Pack the chairs, walking boots and little comforts that make your caravan yours. Even your four-legged traveller can come along, with Pet-friendly cabins and safe, secure kennels available.

Tow your van aboard in Geelong, roll off in Devonport and choose your own direction. In Tasmania, the freedom to explore starts the moment the road opens ahead.
