Spirit of Tasmania V has arrived in Fremantle, Australia.
The 212-metre-long, 48,000 gross tonne ship travelled to Australia from Leith in Scotland (departing on 8 March), following the same route as Spirit of Tasmania IV before it (Gibraltar, Cape Verde Islands (off the western coast of Africa), Cape Town in South Africa and Port Louis in Mauritius).
Now that the vessel has arrived in Fremantle, it will stay for several days to complete vessel importation requirements, Customs and Immigration formalities, a crew change, refuelling and restocking of provisions.
From Fremantle, Spirit of Tasmania V will travel to Geelong (in early May) for further gantry testing before being berthed at Station Pier in Melbourne until a berth becomes available in Hobart, for the final fit-out of local content.
TT-Line CEO Chris Carbone said the new vessels, scheduled to commence service in Bass Strait by the end of October this year, would offer a more comfortable, spacious and enjoyable journey.
“The vessels represent a generational investment in Tasmania’s future,” he said.
“Their increased capacity will create new opportunities for local businesses and the visitor economy.”
