There are over thirty fires that have started in West and North West regions of Tasmania as a result of lightning strikes on the Wednesday, 13th January 2016.
Todays milder weather conditions will assist with firefighting efforts throughout the Nth West and West Coast area’s, however fire under these conditions can still be difficult to control
There is no immediate threat.
Smoke may be impacting communities from the central north, north west and west coast regions.
Motorists, please drive to the conditions with headlights turned on and be aware of reduced speed limits. See www.police.tas.gov.au for further information on road closures and changed conditions.
The Sandy Cape 4WD Track between Temma and Sandy Cape is closed to all access except for shack and property owners. Campers and four wheel drivers will not be permitted access due to the time it takes to evacuate this remote area.
Travellers to the West and North West regions of Tasmania are advised to keep up to date through the Tasmania Fire Service website www.fire.tas.gov.au and listen to local ABC radio.
Bush walkers are advised to check the Parks and Wildlife Service website for current walking track closures on www.parks.tas.gov.au
