Over thirty fires started in the West, North West, and Northern regions of Tasmania on Wednesday 13th January 2016 as a result of lightning strikes.
Today’s milder weather conditions will assist with firefighting efforts throughout the West, North West and Northern areas, however fire under these conditions can still be difficult to control. Smoke may be impacting communities in these areas throughout the day.
Motorists, please drive to the conditions with headlights turned on and be aware of reduced speed limits. For information on current road closures, please visit Tasmania Police website at www.police.tas.gov.au and select Alerts.
Please avoid non-essential travel to the Arthur River region.
The Sandy Cape 4WD Track between Temma and Sandy Cape is closed to all access except for shack and property owners. Campers and four wheel drivers will not be permitted access due to the time it takes to evacuate this remote area.
