Check-in & boarding process

Step 1: Check-in
Check-in opens 2.5 hours before departure and closes strictly 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time. If you are travelling with a vehicle, drive up to the vehicle booth. For foot passengers, check-in inside the terminal. Please have your e-ticket and photo ID ready to show our team.

Once you have checked-in you will receive your boarding pass. If you have booked a cabin or recliner this pass will act as your key.
All passengers and vehicles are subject to security screening before boarding. Please check our Restricted items list to ensure your luggage will meet our screening requirements.

Biosecurity restrictions apply. Certain items such as fruit, vegetables, plants and honey must be declared or disposed of prior to boarding.

While waiting to board at the Geelong terminal, take advantage of our amenities, including a children’s playground, dedicated pet area, comfortable lounge areas, free Wi-Fi, charging stations and a café offering fresh food and coffee.

Vehicles are boarded according to their height and length rather than first to arrive. Passengers drive their own cars on board the ship directed by crew. Once the vehicle is parked, place in park/gear and engage the park brake. If possible, disable your car alarm as movement of the ship can set it off. Motorbikes and bicycles are secured in designated areas.

If you have booked a kennel, at check-in our team will provide you with a yellow tag instructing you to proceed to the nearest kennel with your pet. Spirit of Tasmania pets kennels are located on Decks 3 and 5.

Bring along familiar items such as bedding or toys to help your pet feel comfortable during the journey. Please ensure you are able to lift your pet into a kennel if required.

Take your carry-on luggage and any medication with you. For safety reasons passengers are not allowed on the vehicle decks during voyage. Be sure to take a parking reminder flyer or take a photo of the vehicle deck number and colour of the stairwell. This will help you locate your vehicle upon your return. To get to your accommodation deck use the closest lift or stairwell. You will find your deck and accommodation details on your boarding pass.

On arrival, announcements are made regarding disembarkation. You will be called to your vehicle by deck number. When disembarking, do not start your engine until directed by crew. All passengers travelling with a vehicle disembark the ship with the driver.
