Spirit of Tasmania sailings update
The continuing closure of the Port of Devonport because of heavy rains and debris in the Mersey River has meant tonight’s (7 June) Spirit of Tasmania I and II sailings have been cancelled.
All affected passengers are being contacted.
TT-Line chief executive officer Bernard Dwyer said the company had been waiting on updates from Tasports regarding the opening of the Mersey River before it could advise passengers and freight customers about tonight’s sailing.
“TT-Line is investigating other port options in conjunction with TasPorts if the Mersey River remains closed,” he said.
“These options include Bell Bay and Burnie.
“The company will also look at scheduling additional day sailings later in the week to carry any backlog of passengers.”
Tasports advised TT-Line on 6 June that the Mersey River had been closed to all commercial shipping both in and out bound.
As a result, TT-Line was forced to cancel both Devonport to Melbourne and Melbourne to Devonport sailings on Monday night.
Passengers remained on board the vessels and were advised today (7 June) that their sailing had been cancelled and rescheduled to a 9pm sailing on Sunday 12 June.
Mr Dwyer said all passengers were being refunded their fares.
All passengers and freight were discharged from the vessels by 9 am today (7 June).
