Spirit of Tasmania has pledged to do its bit to bring The Footy Show to Tasmania.

Spirit of Tasmania CEO Bernard Dwyer said he watched The Footy Show episode on Thursday 9 April and, after learning of the campaign to bring the show to Tasmania, thought it would be fantastic for the profile of the state.

“We have obviously got the means to get their gear to Tasmania and Wrest Point has the venue to host them, so really all we need now is more support from Tasmanians to get behind this,” he said.

Mr Dwyer said Spirit of Tasmania had contacted Wrest Point and is happy to assist with transporting equipment to Tasmania from Victoria for the show.

“Spirit of Tasmania is a proud sponsor of the North Melbourne Football Club, which is playing three games in Hobart this year,” he said.

“Bringing football to Tasmania is something we are passionate about.

“It not only benefits businesses and tourism around the state, but it also creates buzz and hype in Tasmania that only the footy season can bring.

“Extending that support to The Footy Show, which has significant ratings in our key market of Victoria, was a simple decision to make.”

Spirit of Tasmania has supported the North Melbourne Football Club since 2011.

North Melbourne Football Club chairman and The Footy Show host James Brayshaw travelled on board Spirit of Tasmania for the Club’s Board meeting in 2013.

James Brayshaw said: “I’ve been on the Spirit of Tasmania three times and I have absolutely loved it each time.

“We had a board meeting for North Melbourne on-board and I’ve done the family holiday thing on there and it was magnificent.

“It’s a great way to get over to Tassie, the on-board restaurants are fantastic, the rooms are great, I slept like a baby.

“You wake up and you’re in Tassie, it’s fantastic.

“And then when you arrive you have your own car with you.

I absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone.”

Mr Dwyer said that feedback like that was great for Spirit of Tasmania.
