Spirit of Tasmania ships to get makeover

Spirit of Tasmania has appointed an international marine interior fitout and refurbishment specialist Trimline as the key contractor to fully refurbish Spirit of Tasmania I and II this year.

“This is the first time Spirit of Tasmania has undergone a major refurbishment since the vessels arrived in 2002,” said Spirit of Tasmania CEO Bernard Dwyer.

Mr Dwyer said today’s announcement was a significant one in the history of Spirit of Tasmania and for Trimline.

“Trimline is a highly regarded company that has completed significant, quality refurbishment works in the European shipping market,” he said.

“We are obviously looking forward to not only rolling out the changes but promoting the ‘new’ vessels to our key markets.”

Under the approved plans, all passenger decks will be refreshed to enhance the onboard passenger experience, including:

• New restaurant area offering a fresh selection of dishes including a Tasmanian signature dish of the day.
• New grab and go shop offering a wide range of convenient food and beverage options and Tasmanian products.
• Two new cinemas screening latest release movies.
• Fully refurbished accommodation lounge with brand new recliners, more spacious seating layout and added comfort.
• Fully refurbished Deluxe Cabins and new soft furnishings in all other cabins.
• Fully refurbished upper decks with family entertainment, including a kids zone and teen areas.
• New bars with more open space and lounge areas, showcasing Tasmanian wines, ciders and beers along with a variety of bar snacks.
• New internal décor, lighting and colour schemes throughout the ships.
• Upgraded tourist information hub.

“The refurbishments are designed to give passengers more onboard experiences to enjoy and even more reasons to fall in love with sea travel from the moment they drive on board.

“We’re still going to have the same ocean views, relaxing atmosphere and sensational Tasmanian cuisine, but everything else will be going through a complete makeover.”

“Extra day sailings are also scheduled this year, giving people more opportunities to sail on the “new” Spirit of Tasmania vessels,” he said.

Mr Dwyer said the refurbishment works would start in April, with both vessels fully refurbished by September 2015.
