This 9.6 km (round trip) hike is a grade three hike through the Yarra State Forest and should take around 3.5 hours to complete.
It follows old timber tramways constructed originally to service sawmills that extended as far as Starlings Gap. As the walk gently inclines from Big Pats Creek, the forest becomes a wet sclerophyll forest and the trees become much taller.
Leeches are common, so bring repellent and wear long pants.
The track is mainly over old tram tracks, undulating ground, mild incline sections and some steps.
Big Pats Creek has a picnic and campground area.
A popular trail for birding, hiking, and running, it is open year-round, inclement weather permitting. Dogs are also welcome on lead.
One of Australia’s most iconic travel experiences, Spirit of Tasmania makes travelling across Bass Strait flexible, convenient and easy.
