Step back in time at the Carousel. A timeless treasure on the Geelong Waterfront
Discover the charm of the Carousel, an original Armitage-Herschell steam-driven, hand-carved wooden carousel built around 1892. As one of only 200 still in operation worldwide, it features 36 beautifully crafted Dare horses and two ornate chariots, offering a nostalgic experience for visitors of all ages.
Purchased by the Steampacket Place Development Board in 1996, the Carousel was carefully restored to its former glory. It now resides in a striking waterfront pavilion, complete with a replica 1898 Gavioli Band organ which fills the space with the sounds of a bygone era.
The Carousel is more than a historic attraction—it’s a welcoming space for the entire community. With enhanced accessibility, including improved pavilion access and a recharge point for mobility devices, it ensures a memorable and inclusive experience for everyone.
From children’s birthday parties and wedding ceremonies to photo shoots and corporate functions, the Carousel offers a distinctive and enchanting setting for a wide range of events.
Situated in the heart of the waterfront precinct, The Carousel has become a popular meeting place and a must-visit tourist destination. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, it promises a delightful journey through history and community spirit.
