Freycinet has the east-coast beach – Wineglass Bay – but it also has many other stunning strands. Sleepy Bay’s red boulders and sands light up at sunrise, while Honeymoon Bay, with its backdrop of the Hazards, is as romantic as its name suggests. For a seemingly endless line of white beaches, take a walk on the Friendly Beaches.
Visit Cape Tourville Lighthouse via the accessible boardwalk upon a vast sea cliff. The cape is part of the East Coast Whale Trail, so keep an eye on the ocean. Markings on the boardwalk give a sense of the size of these ocean giants.
On the drive out of Coles Bay, make a stop at Moulting Lagoon, a vast wetland that’s typically home to thousands of black swans at any time, and stop for a hearty meal and some ice-cream at the Pondering Frog.
In Bicheno, link up with our Bays and Bikes or Grazing the East itineraries on the Great Eastern Drive.
