Ross creek Gallery proudly presents Ian Kemp’s newest collection of artworks in his exhibition Print Works.

Photogravure printing has increasingly interested Ballarat photographer Ian Kemp as he continues to expand the range of his photographic artwork. Under the tutelage of Silvi Glattauer from Baldessin Press, he has learnt to combine his skills as a photographer with the demands of printmaking.

The process allows him to etch his digital images onto photopolymer plates and then make traditional intaglio prints on a press. The process ultimately combines the best elements of both, creating beautiful tonal images with deep blacks and crisp whites. He enjoys black and white photography; he says that anyone looking at this work immediately knows that he has intervened in what they see and how they feel about the subject of the print.

In Print Works, Kemp ventures into the use of colour with some prints, which adds a tactile and sensory quality to the works.

There is progression in Kemp’s subject in this exhibition. He continues his interest in the transience of human life but then adds his voice to the growing demand to reduce domestic violence in Ballarat and the rest of the country.
