Get your running shoes ready. The Puffing Billy Running Festival is set to return this spring, offering a full weekend of fun, fitness, and heritage steam train magic in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges.
Held across two action-packed days, the 2025 Festival invites runners of all ages and abilities to take part in a variety of scenic race events. Whether you are chasing a personal best or cheering from the tracks, there’s something for everyone.
Day one involves family fun at Emerald Lake Park with the much-loved 1.2 kilometre Kids Dash and 5 kilometre Family Fun Run/Walk, set around the picturesque Emerald Lake Park. With the iconic Puffing Billy steam train sounding off in the background, little legs and family teams alike will be encouraged along the trail. After the race, enjoy a day of free family entertainment and activities at the Lakeside Visitor Centre.
Day two involves the classic race against the train with the return of the legendary 13.5 kilometre ‘Classic’, where up to 2,500 runners will challenge the mighty Puffing Billy from Belgrave to Emerald Lake Park. Family and friends can hop aboard the train to cheer runners on and maybe even cross the finish line first.
