Sheep Art Trail

More Information

The Sheep Art Trail spans 900 metres from the Big Windmill connecting the Silo Art to the Wetlands and Fauna Park. It features over 40 sheep, murals and games.

The Sheep Art Trail is a colourful celebration of Kaniva’s rich agricultural heritage. The tradition of Merino sheep farming dates back to the 1850s and 1860s, when squatters first introduced these sheep to the Kaniva District. From the 1920s to the 1960s, the Kaniva Show was renowned as Victoria’s premier Merino Ram Show. Today, sheep grazing remains integral to sustainable agriculture in the area, enhancing soil health and plant biodiversity.

The Sheep Art Trail features murals, interactive games, tours and a wool stencil wall, recording over 100 wool stencils. A tiny windmill has been hidden on each sheep for young children. The trail includes a variety of digital interactive tours and games that can be played on phones. Choose from Art Trail, Heritage Walk, Sheepish Fun Trail, Wetlands & Fauna Park and more. Visitors can access all of this through the Actionbound Application.

All of the sheep have been painted by local Kaniva artists and community groups, aged between 8 to 80. The Sheep Art Trail has been entirely created and funded by the community.
