More Information

Smithton is the last stop before Arthur River – and the beginning of the Tarkine wilderness. Surrounded by lush green fields fed by the rains of the Roaring Forties, Smithton has plenty of in-town and nearby attractions. Get an overview of the north-west on a scenic flight or take a tour of the Tarkine and surrounds.

Further west of Smithton at Marrawah, thrill-seeking surfers take on the seriously dangerous swells of the wild Southern Ocean. At Cape Grim on Tasmania’s north-western tip, you can breathe the cleanest air in the world on a spectacular guided coastal walk and tour Tasmania’s largest wind farm harnessing the powerful winds of the Roaring Forties.

Smithton is a 1-hr drive (86 km) from Burnie.
