At Spirit of Tasmania, we are committed to providing a safe and seamless travel experience for all our passengers, including those travelling with electric vehicles (EVs) and personal mobility devices (PMDs). To ensure safety and convenience, we have outlined specific guidelines for passengers transporting these types of vehicles and devices.

Definitions

Electric Vehicles (EVs)

  • Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs)
  • Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs)
  • Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs)

Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs)

  • Personal Mobility Devices (e.g., e-scooters, e-bikes, hoverboards)
  • Personal Mobility Aids (e.g., motorised wheelchairs, mobility scooters)

Travelling with Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Booking and Boarding Requirements

  • Declare Your EV: When booking, declare that you will be travelling with an EV.
  • Charge Level: Ensure your EV has sufficient charge to embark and disembark the vessel.
  • Inform Crew: Notify crew members of any warning lights or messages and if the EV has been involved in a collision.
  • Inspection: Allow crew members to inspect and clearly mark your vehicle as an EV.
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure your EV is not under a recall and is safe for travel.

Safety Protocols

  • No Onboard Charging: Charging of EVs is strictly prohibited while onboard.
  • Special Loading Areas: EVs will be loaded onto specific decks and spaces reserved for EVs.
  • Right to Refuse: The company may refuse to load EVs with indicated battery faults or those involved in collisions. The company may also refuse passengers and vehicles not complying with these requirements.

Travelling with Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs)

Booking and Boarding Requirements

  • Declare Your PMD: When booking, declare that you will be transporting a PMD.
  • Mounted PMDs: PMDs mounted on a vehicle or trailer will be loaded onto specific decks and spaces reserved for PMDs.
  • Unmounted PMDs: Unmounted PMDs will be stored in a dedicated trailer on-board.

Safety Protocols

  • Right to Refuse: The company may refuse to carry passengers and vehicles not complying with these requirements.
