Australia’s first Tesla V3 Supercharger – and Tasmania’s first Tesla Supercharger of any kind – has been officially opened in Devonport near the Spirit of Tasmania terminal.
V3 Superchargers are capable of delivering more than twice the power of the previous version, with peak charge rates up to 250kW.
Spirit of Tasmania CEO Bernard Dwyer said the Superchargers were a significant piece of infrastructure for the state’s visitor economy and visiting Tesla drivers.
“Spirit of Tasmania is very pleased to be supporting and associated with Tesla’s investment,” he said.
“Our vessels already bring many thousands of visitors to Tasmania every year.
“These Superchargers will only help with our core business of passenger and passenger vehicle transport, opening the vessels up to a new type of traveler.
“Touring holidays are extremely popular in Tasmania.
“We know from speaking to Tasmanian Tesla owners who regularly get together for driving tours that Tasmania is already an extremely popular destination for travelers seeking a touring holiday.
“The Superchargers will be just as beneficial for local and north west travel as they will be for long distance journeys and provide a convenient charging point for interstate travelers arriving to explore Tasmania.”
