Bookings open - Bring your car for free

14 January 2021

From today (14 January), Spirit of Tasmania is accepting bookings for the highly anticipated ‘Bring your car for free’ promotion made possible by the Federal Government’s recent temporary increase to the Bass Strait Passenger Vehicle Equalisation Scheme (BSPVES).

The promotion, that was announced last week, will be available to passengers who make a new booking for travel to or from Tasmania between 1 March and 30 June 2021.
When passengers make their booking the cost of their standard vehicle is deducted from the total cost of their trip. For passengers travelling with a standard vehicle, this represents a saving between $99 and $149 each way.

Passengers travelling with a motorbike or bicycle will pay zero for their vehicle fare and passengers travelling with a caravan or campervan will receive a discount equivalent to that of a standard vehicle fare.

Bernard Dwyer, Chief Executive Officer, said the initiative would provide a much needed boost for the Tasmanian tourism industry after what had been a challenging 12 months.
“We’re confident that this incentive will bring new visitors to Tasmania and we know that visitors who arrive by sea with their own vehicle stay longer, spend more and explore more regional areas than visitors who arrive by air,” he said.

This offer will be available until 30 June 2021, or until the BSPVES allocation of $6 million is exhausted – whichever comes first. It is estimated that around 25,000 return vehicle fares will be covered by the allocation.
