Spirit of Tasmania proudly supporting Movember

Mo’s get moving around the country to mark the start of this year’s Movember

1 November 2015

As men prep their upper lips for the follicle adventures that await them from Sunday Movember 1, moustaches have already begun to sprout on iconic modes of transport around the country, with the biggest Mo of them all growing on Spirit of Tasmania for the month.

People around the country will be able to spot moustaches on various vessels and vehicles over the next 30 days, as transport gets hairy for men’s health. Passengers on-board Queensland’s metro and regional trains, ferries in Sydney, mining trucks in Western Australia, Melbourne’s trams and in Victoria and Tasmania Spirit of Tasmania will share in the prickly mission to change the face of men’s health over the course of the month.

The Mo donning the face of  Spirit of Tasmania is a staggering nine metres long, making it visible throughout its continuous journey over the Bass Strait during November.

Paul Villanti, Movember Foundation’s Executive Director, said he hoped passengers onboard the Spirit and the other modes of transport across the country would be encouraged and reminded to sign up to grow or support a moustache for Movember as they go about their journey.

“The Mo’s on different modes of transport across the country offer a great visual reminder for Aussies that it’s time to get hairy for men’s health,” said Villanti.

“The Movember moustache acts like a walking, talking billboard for men’s health – it sparks conversations which leads to men talking about and taking action when it comes to their physical and mental wellbeing,” he added.

“There’s still a lot to be done to change the face of men’s health, and we’re challenging all Aussies to grow and support the moustache to help raise funds and awareness that will have an impact on the health of men around the country,” said Villanti.

Since starting in Melbourne in 2003, more than five million people have joined Movember, helping to fund over 1,000 men’s health projects globally in the areas of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health and physical inactivity.
