Spirit of Tasmania II will arrive into Devonport carrying cargo only today (16 October 2022) after 4pm following a decision by the Tasmanian Harbour Master to lift the suspension of commercial shipping operations at the Port of Devonport with some conditions still applying to the movement of the company’s vessels.
The vessel will depart Devonport tomorrow for Station Pier (17 October 2022) with passengers at high tide, as per the Harbour Master’s conditions.
Spirit of Tasmania I will depart Melbourne tomorrow for Devonport as per scheduled.
Further, Spirit of Tasmania has scheduled a number of day sailings this week to assist passengers complete their journeys after the cancellation of a number of scheduled sailings between 13 and 16 October. The backlog is expected to be cleared by the end of the week.
Chief Executive Officer Bernard Dwyer said cancellations were rare for the company which prided itself on delivering a reliable sailing schedule, but this was beyond the company’s control.
“While our thoughts are with everyone who is being impacted by the floods, at the same time we have been working hard to be ready to recommence operations as soon as we are advised by TasPorts that it is safe to do so,” he said.
“Once again, we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Our Customer Contact Centre is rebooking passengers onto this week’s additional sailings and working directly with impacted passengers to issue full fare refunds where necessary.”
