8 June 2016 - Spirit of Tasmania sailings update

Spirit of Tasmania sailings out of Devonport and Melbourne tonight (8 June) have been cancelled as the Port of Devonport remains closed.

TT-Line chief executive officer Bernard Dwyer said bookings from these sailings would be transferred to a new day sailing on Sunday 12 June.

“We started contacting passengers advising them of the changes at 12 noon today,” he said.

“We are now waiting on an update from TasPorts regarding a timeframe around the opening of the Mersey River.”

Mr Dwyer said the company was investigating using the Port of Burnie as an alternative Tasmanian port while Devonport was closed.

“It is unclear at this stage how long the Devonport Port will be closed,” he said.

“We are urgently completing a review of the Burnie Port’s infrastructure to ensure it is compatible with the Spirit of Tasmania vessels’ ramps for loading and unloading passenger vehicles and freight safely.”

Tasports advised TT-Line on 6 June that the Mersey River had been closed to all commercial shipping both in and out bound.

Mr Dwyer said all affected passengers would have their fares refunded.
