1. Snap a photo amid thousands of tulips

Perched 180m above the Bass Strait, atop what once was a volcanic vent in Tasmania’s North West, Table Cape Tulip Farm is home to the largest tulip fields in the Southern Hemisphere – and becomes the brightest spot on the island once a year. From late September to late October photographers, flower lovers and curious alike flock here to admire the sight of thousands of bulbs blossoming into colourful tulips.

Feast your eyes and be transported to the Dutch countryside as you walk among the perfect lines of tulips, linger for Devonshire tea and bulb shopping, or visit during the popular Tulip Festival (Saturday 14 October) which brings music, food and events to the tranquil town of Wynyard.

2. Taste and sip your way along the east coast

Explore the east coast’s cool-climate vineyards and celebrate the region’s fine wines and delicious fare during the Great Eastern Wine Week. Originally hosted over the course of a single weekend, the events recent popularity has seen it be extended to a 10 day program, from 8-17 September – meaning you’ll have even more time to sip and taste your way along the east coast of Tassie. With a host of varied activities and events available in this year’s program, be sure to book ahead to not miss out!.

Held in the same region during the third weekend of November is the Bicheno Food and Wine Festival – with exciting masterclasses by renowned local chefs and food experts all on the cards.

3. Indulge in local produce

A flavourful weekly Hobart institution, Farm Gate Market – or ‘Farmy’ as the locals know it – is a site of bustling activity, fresh foods, and lively conversation every Sunday. Go behind the scenes and fill up your Esky with delicious, local produce, taste buttery cheeses, sip on fine wines and meet the producers behind some of Tassie’s greatest goods.

4. Discover Tasmania’s many talents

Describing itself as an ‘intimate festival of extraordinary experiences in unusual spaces’, Junction Art Festival transforms the city of Launceston into an open-air gallery, theatre and music venue for five days during the latter stages of September.

It’s here you will discover some of Tasmania’s most amazing artists and musicians, admire one-of-a-kind art installations and get a taste of Tasmania’s award-winning fare – all in very unusual and unexpected venues.

5. Get crafty

Deloraine’s big Tasmanian Craft Fair returns for its latest instalment during November’s long weekend (November 3-6). Spread across eight venues and six galleries, exhibiting the works of over 240 artisans, this is Australia’s largest working display of arts and crafts.

Expect to come across every kind of crafty creativity, from weaving to woodwork, and meet the makers of anything you can think of – from fishing flies to knives and jewellery.

6. Refine your senses

Art, music, food and wine come together in Hobart & New Norfolk over three days at the Tasmanian Chamber Music Festival – a true feast for all the senses with art exhibitions, degustation dinners and incredible music all on the program.

Taking place from October 20-22, festival passes are quickly selling out, though plenty of individual event tickets are available.
