Get Lost In A Maze

Tasmania is home to eight fabulous and brain-challenging mazes and the delightfully named Village of Lower Crackpot, a crazily colourful model village. Located in the town of Promised Land (really!) south of Devonport, the complex also features the Embassy Gardens: miniature buildings representing 40 countries.

Enjoy Some Berry Delicious Treats

Visit Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe, 25 km south of Devonport, on an empty tummy. You’ll understand why when you see the breakfast menu, which includes options such as French toast served two ways (good luck choosing between the chocolate/berry and berry/ricotta options) and, on the kids’ menu, mini raspberry pancakes and waffles.

Wind Your Way Through the Wild

On Tassie’s west coast, the Gordon River is pristine wilderness at its finest. Embark on a Gordon River Cruise, departing from Strahan. The boat meanders through the Tasmanian Wilderness World-heritage area, stopping at Sarah Island, a former convict settlement. Make sure you breathe deep as you go, this part of the state has some of the world’s cleanest air.

Walk On Air

The 619-metre-long walkway (reached by 112 steps) sits 30 metres above the Huon River – 50 metres on the final cantilevered section – and the views are spectacular. If you want more adventure, try the cable-controlled hang glider: a whoosh you won’t forget in a hurry.

Enjoy A Little Retail Therapy

What better way to end a Tasmanian holiday than to buy a few mementoes of your Apple Isle adventure? At Reliquaire in Latrobe, 15 minutes south of Devonport, there’s plenty to entertain both big and small members of the family. Choose from a range of dolls, puppets and fun games for the kids, Nancybird bags for mum and perhaps some cheese and chutney for dad.
